Ordinary Day in November

rain -- and then sun
sweeps across the California coastline
the scent of luminous new growth
blows over our backyard hillside

inside a cricket's song
in opposition to the full moon
garden eggplants, cucumbers, tomatoes
face the final diffracting edge of autumn
displaying colors -- purple green red

it is a mystery to me
for this world of tranquility
why in this life, faith is left behind
why in this embrace, beauty is right beyond
enduring with an unaccountable mind

global economies recede or rise
in invisible indefinite dimensions
a beryl blue shadow of consciousness, caresses
unveils, this lingering body on planet earth
-- longing for that ordinary day
