Open-Ended Time

September 5, 2009

what is freedom for?
when our brainwork can't even remember
how we arrived to where we are?
our delusions could be in another mind

saddened by death and rejoicing in birth
falling without grounding out completely
leading the right side of a 5.6 climb
caressing currents in crescent-moon twilight

for an insignificant mass of molecules
being alive is a wondrous feeling
standing at the focus of a 25-meter parabola
the reflector sings harp-like to space

frequencies modulate to artistry
but loneliness is the darkness of God
if no one understands enough to share
a recurrence of this season

in open-ended time do we fracture
the lines of days and nights
in sleep and wakefulness
for what is freedom?
